In a recent development, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updates on the myAadhaar portal. Originally set for 15th December 2023, the new deadline now allows users to update their Aadhaar cards without any cost until 14th March 2024.
It’s crucial to note that while the online update remains free, updating Aadhaar cards at offline Aadhaar centers comes with associated costs. This extension comes in response to the need for frequent Aadhaar card updates, especially in light of the recently increased incidents of Aadhaar-related fraud.
The decision to extend the deadline was influenced by the positive response from residents. An official memorandum released by UIDAI states, “Based on the positive response from the residents, it is decided to extend the facility for 3 more months, i.e., from 15.12.2023 to 14.03.2024. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost through myAadhaar portal.”
